In 1865, more than 150 years ago, Heidelberg experienced a minor sensation. After a construction period of just two years, the Hôtel de l’Europe opened its doors for the first time, astounding both locals and guests from further afield with its extremely high quality interior and exceptional comfort – at a time when guests still arrived by horse-drawn carriage.
Our motto is "we love what we do". This passion has been a consistent thread running through all areas of the traditional hotel since Ernst-Friedrich and Sylvia von Kretschmann took over management in 1965. The couple still works to the same philosophy to this day and they have now also been joined by their daughter, Dr Caroline von Kretschmann. The hotel is therefore in its fourth generation as a Kretschmann family enterprise – which is perhaps one reason for the private yet relaxed atmosphere that guests love so much.
The 100 single and double rooms, 14 suites, 3 apartments and one penthouse suite all have different designs and interiors, carefully selected to meet the highest standards. In many of the redesigned rooms, elegant parquet flooring has been combined with fine fabrics. Timeless elegance meets modern beauty and practicality here, and everyone is sure to feel at home right away.
The serviced apartments are something completely new, combining particularly exclusive and luxurious living with the excellent service of a five-star hotel. The exclusive apartments are located directly next to Europäischer Hof. All hotel services can be used as and when desired, allowing a private yet relaxed lifestyle. For guests enjoying an extended stay in Heidelberg, the serviced apartments represent an ideal alternative to the hotel, allowing them to feel as though they are living in their own four walls.
The Kurfürstenstube restaurant was unveiled in the new Hotel de l’Europe in 1866, just one year after the spectacular opening of the hotel itself. Since this time, it has been famous among connoisseurs of fine cuisine for its exemplary service and enjoys an excellent reputation to this day. The wood-panelled ceilings and walls with inlay work are largely still original. Brass chandeliers and original copper etchings showing Heidelberg's rich history contribute to the unique ambience.
The hotel offers the perfect conditions for top-level events. Ten individually designed rooms covering a total of 1000 m² offer the ideal environment for any occasion – from family celebrations and weddings, to business conventions and presentations. The events team not only provides guests with professional and personal support, but can also help develop ideas.
